About
The written history of Christianity in Nepal usually starts with Jesuit missionaries. They passed through Nepal on their way to Tibet in the early 1600s. But steady church growth came much later. For a long time in the 1900s, Nepali law restricted people from changing their religion. Nepal's current constitution, from 2015, makes Nepal a secular state. Today, Nepal has many Christian groups. Most are led by Nepali Christians. This page will grow with more detail on specific groups, once we have checked facts to add.
Beliefs
Christians believe in one God. Christian belief centers on the life, death, and rising again of Jesus Christ. Christians see the Bible as their holy book. Beliefs and practices can be different between groups — Roman Catholic, Protestant, and other Christian groups are all in Nepal. This page does not treat one group as speaking for all of Christianity.
Teachings
Christian teaching is passed down through Bible study, church worship, and the traditions of each group. There are many Christian communities in Nepal, and they teach in different ways. Because of this, this page does not say that one group's teaching is the only correct one. We will introduce specific groups and their teachings on their own, once we have checked facts to add.
